Ancients The Death Watch Tutorial: How to Download and Install this Brother Geobook Game

The GeoBook support line will NOT help you in any way with this game.

This is a Very Impressive game for such a little word processor (the Brother GeoBook). The reason that it works on the NB80C and only the NB60's with a serial number starting with J9D9 is the motherboard. The only (significant) difference between the NB80C (256 color) and an NB60 (16 color black and white) with the J9D9 serial number is the screen. There may be other NB60's that it will run on, But I do not know which ones.

For this game to work on your GeoBook you MUST have a MOUSE. Microsoft compatible 2 button serial Mouse. It is possible that a P/S2 Mouse could work with a serial adapter but if it doesn't work, then it just doesn't work.

To get the file you will have to download it, using a computer with the Windows 95 or Windows 98 Operating System, that has a connection to the Internet. You will need to go here to download the game. If you know how to download a Zip file, then just do it. If you don't know what to do, Follow the instructions below.

Tutorial: Download a Zip file on Windows 95 or Windows 98

First you have to download the file and save it. After that you will Unzip it to a 3 1/2 inch Floppy Disk.

While you are reading this you should be sitting in front of a Windows computer and online. You should be in Windows and on the page that has the file you want to downloaded (For the game that will be this page). Click on the blue word(s) indicating the file you want to download (Click Here to download up above). Now a window will pop up. Click "Save as or Save File.

This is the part that most people have trouble with so let me take a moment to explain this window. As I have said, the top line of this window says "Save As". The next line says "Save in:". to the right of the words "Save in:" there is a little window that tells you what folder or directory you are working with. ("Folder" and "Directory" are the same thing). Now there is no way for me to tell you what words you will see in this little window because that is determined by where you last saved a file. However there is a "down arrow" (a small black triangle, pointing down, in a small gray square) on the right side of this little window. Click the down arrow and you will see part of your directory structure listed. Starting at the top of the list you will see "Desktop", "My Computer", 3 1/2 Floppy [A:]", and most important "[C:]". There may be a word on the same line as "[C:]" and that depends on what you or your computer manufacturer named it. The important thing is that it says "[c:]". This is referred to as your "C" drive.

Click on the "C" drive. Now you will see the drive name followed by "[C:]" in that little window. In the larger window in the middle you will see a folder called "My Documents" (you may have to scroll to find it). Double click "My Documents". Now you should see the "Save in" window says "My Documents". If you look at the bottom, next to the words "File name" you will see something like "pn9kd3.exe" (or ancients.zip, nb80cd1.exe, nb6080d2.exe etc.). To the right you will see the "Save" button. Click the "Save" button. Now the file is downloading to your system. Wait for the file to download and follow the same steps to save any other file(s) you may need.

Now, when the "Save As" window opens next you will notice that next to "Save in:" it probably still says "My Documents" if so then you only need to click the "Save" button near the bottom right.

Once you have saved the files to the hard drive you are ready to extract the files to a floppy disk (3 1/2 inch hard plastic square).

Click "Start" go up to "Programs" and then click on "Windows Explorer" (towards the end of the list). On the left hand side click on "My Documents". On the right hand side you will see the files you have downloaded (nb80cd1.exe, pn9kd2.exe etc.). Double click on the first file. A window will pop up telling you to put a disk into the drive. Put a blank formatted floppy disk (that's how they come new out of the box) into the floppy drive and click "OK" and then click "unzip". When it is finished click "OK' and "close". Once complete you have a perfect copy of Disk 1 (or disk 2 or the game etc.). The files on the hard drive are no longer needed and you may deal with them as you wish.

If you want learn how to create a Zip file (you will need to be using a Windows 9x computer to view this link) go here.

Now that all of that is done, just put the disk in your GeoBook, go into file manager, and either copy it to your Flash Card (E: drive if you have it) or run the file -runthis.bat (double click on it) from the disk.

Now have fun with your new toy.

I hope this helps.
