Outlook Express / Norton Anti-Spam Fix
Symptoms: Outlook Express freezes when you try to
declare an email either spam or not spam.
For some reason this happened all of a sudden for
no apparent reason while using Outlook Express in Windows XP.
Outlook Express freezes and there is nothing you can
do but close the program. I tried several time with the same results.
One of the strange things is I was trying to declare an email non spam
in the Spam folder an email that should not have been in the Spam folder.
After trying several times, I decided to go to the
install directory for Norton, which unless you specified different should
be in the C:\Programfiles\Norton Internet Security\. You can use the
built in file manger in Windows to bring up the folder. From the Norton
Internet Security folder go to the Norton AntiVirus folder then to the
Quarantine folder. You see a long list of files that are named gibberish
with the TMP file extension (you may or may not see the extension, depending
on your Windows XP settings). I deleted all the files in the Quarantine
folder. I checked the incoming folder and the portal folder but they
were empty. I then emptied the Recycle Bin and restarted Windows. Outlook
Express worked fine when I tried again. Problem solved.
